What Type Of Future Can Young Men Look Forward To?

On Christmas Day I spent time with four of my male cousins, ranging in age from 15 to 24. While I’m not quite their mentor, they are receptive to lessons I give them. With any man I talk to, I try to identify where he is in life and what his unique situation is to give advice that I think will help him reach his next goal. This year, however, I had trouble giving much in the way of advice or motivation.

The reason is because most roads today lead to dead ends, and I know this because I’ve pursued most of them. A man eventually gets spit out not that much farther from where he began.

  • I slept with dozens of girls around the world, but now I’m tired of it.
  • I traveled to two dozen countries, but now it’s boring because there’s nothing novel left to experience.
  • I make enough income to live a minimalist lifestyle indefinitely, but I don’t care for the comfort it gives me.
  • I’ve achieved a high level of fame and influence, with web sites that collectively served 88 million page views last year, but I’ve become accustomed to it. It’s no big deal.

Pursuing external experiences, objects, or sex with beautiful women made me joyous but only for a short period of time, and then I returned back to the same emotional level. Was it all a waste? Was it all for vanity? Whatever the answer, I surely can’t advise my young cousins to pursue hedonism, of banging hoes around the world for no other reason than to bang hoes, if it will fail to give them a lasting form of contentment. Instead, I could advise them to search for deeper meaning in life.

  • Dedicate yourself to God
  • Find a woman and have a big family with her
  • Give back to your community and make people’s lives better

These are better options, perhaps, but the times we live in will make them difficult to pursue. A God-fearing man would have to build high walls against the never-ending barrage of degenerate messages and sinful temptation that surround him. Raising a big family would provide a man with meaning as long as his wife didn’t take advantage of laws that encourage her to destroy the family and make the man financially destitute, and as long as the state doesn’t interfere in the raising of his children. Giving to others brings joy, as I can personally vouch for, but who exactly do you give to when your neighbor is from Somalia or Guatemala, and who may not even speak English, or when you’re actively being displaced and marginalized by your own government?

With concerted efforts to destroy God, family, tribe, and nation, my cousins will find it a great challenge to encounter a meaningful path, especially since they were programmed from a young age to be weak, victimized, feminine, dependent, collectivist, and fearful. I have no doubt that they can transcend that programming, but I’m sure you agree with me that the path to self-awareness and independence has become difficult and dark in a way that it wasn’t for men of the past. My cousins will be isolated and attacked along their path. They’ll receive no mainstream support. Is this the road I want to send them down, a life of truth but filled with constant battle and vigilance?

In the modern age, a life of meaning for men is impossible to achieve without also having to perpetually fight. It will take the mentality of a warrior to defeat the forces that want to hold us back today, and I wouldn’t put any man in this fight unless it’s a fight that he wants. So this Christmas, I didn’t give much guidance to my cousins. I gave practical advice, but nothing substantial or revolutionary, because I know that unless a man believes deep in his soul that hope and meaning is out there, that a good future can be made for him, there is little that can be done. I’ll keep an eye on them and see how they develop, but wait for them to come to me with a decision that they much rather take the far more difficult path.

    Perfect summation of the reason I don’t have kids. And before someone comes in and tells me that “kids are the path that removes the dead end” allow me to point out that’s sentencing my potential children to a life where they will eventually realize that the only meaning is to procreate. If that is, in fact, all there is to it, we need to join the voluntary human extinction movement.
    Young men (and women, perhaps even more so) have a tough road ahead of them, especially if they are in the 50% of the population with below average intelligence. As computers and technology continue to improve, the need for low IQ workers will continue it’s slide towards 0. 10-20 years from now, almost everyone working in the transportation sector will be out of a job. That’s 10-20% of the population with their jobs vaporized by computers. And sure, some of those guys will go to work programming the computers that drive cars/planes/etc. But most won’t, because they don’t have the IQ to do that kind of work.
    The world becomes more and more IQ loaded every day. Being born today with even a “moderately high” IQ means that you may never really be able to enter the professional workforce. It’s an existential problem for which I see no reasonable solutions other than more breeding for high IQ people and less for low IQ. Absent that, war or massive welfare/guaranteed income are going to be paths forward.

      i do agree about the problem of IQ. My solution was to seek honesty in people regardless of intellect. It’s how I ended up hanging in biker circles. Honest, straight forward men who still have honor. Beats the living shit out of hanging with deceitful “higher IQ” office types any day of the week. I just don’t let them know that I can go medieval polysyllabic when speaking.

    Roosh, I’m glad you are maturing and learning these lessons before you become an old man. In this, you may have done better than Solomon (generally regarded as the author of Ecclesiastes).
    At the end of the day, it seems to me that a genuine and robust Christian faith is the only meaningful pursuit in life. I don’t mean the modern weak cowardly soft effeminate Christianity we see around us here in the West.
    I mean the real deal, the Faith of the Apostles. I am talking about the Faith that Paul was beaten, imprisoned, and shipwrecked for. The Faith that Stephen (and most all of the original 12 disciples) died for. I am talking about the Faith of men like Moses, Enoch, Abraham, Jacob, Daniel, Caleb, Joshua, Jeremiah, Elijah, Gideon, and David. The Faith of men like Polycarp, Athanasius, Augustine, Martin Luther, Jon Knox, John Calvin, John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards, and Charles Spurgeon.
    None of those men were perfect. They all had many sins, and failings, yet they had an abiding faith in the Person and Saving Work of the Lord Jesus Christ. They knew that He is risen, and is seated at the right hand of the Father on high. They knew that He will return one day to bring everlasting life and joy to those who trust in Him.
    Genuine Christianity is radically patriarchal, radically powerful, culture transforming, and culture creating. Men like those, help to build a better world here and now, largely because they dwell not on the here and now, but look to the Heavenly city of God, and the resurrection of the dead.

          As far as atheism goes, Romans 2 references Jeremiah 31: “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” Everybody is shown God through general revelation. If you “simply find no reason”, it’s because you’ve suppressed it. It’s visible everyday in the regular world. Every breath you take is granted from Him.
          Romans 1:19: “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them…. so they are without excuse.” Further on down, “God gave them up to dishonorable passions…. and since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind.” God can only be trifled with for so long before His Hand is taken away, Common Grace is lifted and you’re left without His shepherding. It’s a truly frightful place.
          Can a person offer something to society? Sure, but we’re not about society. We couldn’t care less about it, really. Can you offer something to God? Romans 3: “None is righteous, no not one; no one understands, no one seeks for God.” Atheists (as if there were such a thing) cannot do good for the benefit of Christ since they’re not given Faith. Isaiah 64 gets reflected upon later by Paul: “… and all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags.” You cannot work your way into Heaven since all deeds done for “good” works are sinful unless done to the Glorification of God.

          Why are we also given reasoning ability that conflicts with faith?
          If a person comes up to you on the street and says god just “wrote on to his mind” do x or y you accept that and say “go ahead” or think them mentally ill?

          Why is there more than one religion? The works of men. If you look closely, every other religion is one of works. Do this, God loves you (their god). Do this, be rewarded. Christianity is the only Faith that is just that. Believe in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, be saved. That’s all. Now, there’s “Yes, He existed” faith and “He died to atone for me” Faith. Big difference.
          Reasoning ability does not contradict Faith, it’s encourages it. Sit down and read the Gospel of John. Then Matthew, then Romans. Then go back to Psalm 22 and read what was prophesied hundreds of years before Christ and before crucifixion was even invented. Then read Isaiah 52-54. Your reasoning ability is given to you by Him.
          If someone approaches you like that, he’s mentally ill. God does not “write on his mind” anymore. The canon of Scripture is closed. That’s why Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, Kenneth Copeland et al are heretics. God does not speak to us anymore except through His Word.
          Those are two different ideas. You do not do things for the Glorification of God to avoid punishment. You do them because Solo Deo Gloria (Only for the Glory of God). You do them because He wants you to not to avoid punishment. There is no punishment for those who are Saved.

          The only possibly consistent statement is that we’re all praying to the same god and that “any faith” is faith in him. If you believe that there’s one “right faith”, you’re clinical and about 3 steps from putting on a suicide vest. There are just so many logical flaws that simply cannot be closed when you start down the “right religion” path. Perhaps the most effective, what if you’ve never heard of the right religion? Straight to hell? Often this is explained away as “those who don’t know are automatically saved”. Well, if that’s your real view, the WORST thing you could do is tell anyone about your religion. By informing them, you put them at risk of eternity in hell. If you let them lead their lives blissfully unaware, they get an “gimmie”.
          I’m sorry, religion has a role in many people’s lives and for that I’m generally accepting. But, as soon as you take it to the level of “real belief” you’re starting down the route to insanity. If there is a god, he wants you to live a good life. We all know what that is without a book and without spending every weekend kneeling and praying. Be good to others, don’t hurt people, apologize for your mistakes and try to correct them. Does this really require regular indoctrination to understand for the majority of the population?

          Faith is absence of reason, almost by definition. If you use reason, you have absolutely no valid argument for proof of, or faith in any god or god like figure. You have to take it “on faith” that what’s in the Bible (or whatever book you choose) is the answer, it can’t be “tested” which, again, is the way you make a rational decision, rather than one based in faith.

          No, it’s still mercy. First, because he hasn’t thrown you into Hell yet. He waits for all those who would answer His call so that none will be missed (John…17?) Secondly, because you have the opportunity to avoid it. Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and nobody comes to the Father except through me.”

          Agreed, however, there IS proof that the book of Genesis is not correct. And, given that it’s kind of an important part of the whole story, proof that it’s wrong while at the same time maintaining the rest is correct is flying directly in the face of reason.

There is no more proof for them than there is for Genesis, nor can there ever be any more proof simply by the fact that prior to the universe there was no way to quantify, measure or in any way observe. All theories in science about the origins are thus speculation based on unprovable assertions, as will be all future ideas about its creation no matter how “science based”.
          There is no such thing as “proof that the book of Genesis is not correct” at all. One does not prove a negative, that’s unscientific and contrary to the rules of logic.

        32. Well, I wouldn’t go that far. We know how planets were formed, we know where moons come from, we know a lot about how the universe works and how things happen. However, let’s forget that for a second and say that none of that is right or verifiable.
          We KNOW that the book of Genesis is wrong. The world was not created in 7 days. Man did not walk with the dinosaurs and was not here when diamonds were being forged in the center of the planet. You can argue that everything after Genesis is true, but Genesis is hogwash and science can prove that, without question.
          Of course you can prove a negative. “I am not a woman” is a negative, it’s true, and it can be proven. For the book of Genesis to be “not correct” we just need to find something that can be proven as false. And we have, over and over again.

          And if you believe it’s a possibility, anyone bringing a child into this world is responsible for cruelty beyond measure. What if your child doesn’t believe? What if you’re killed before they turn 1 and the mother raises them as another religion? If you put that much power in selecting the “right” religion and believe in eternal damnation, you must, by proxy, forgo having children for their own sake and safety.

          Then might I suggest you ponder it a bit, and consider that I have pondered it, a lot. If you don’t think I’m right, then examine every scientific theory of origin that you know of or can find, and demonstrate how it could be proven.
          I can save you some time. There’s either “it began with X event” or “it’s always existed”. String, super string, explosions, what have you. “Always existed” is easy to dash out, simply because you can’t measure infinity, you have no frame of reference to relate to reality to do so as you have no starting or end points. It defies measurement by definition, so it can’t be qualified or proven, you simply have to…accept…that it is so. Faith. And of course, as I mentioned earlier, if you posit that it didn’t exist then did exist through whatever method, you’ll be hard pressed to show how it just suddenly appeared. What, a little dot of everything just appeared out of nowhere and exploded for reasons you cannot show or prove since there was no way to measure, observe or qualify them? Well then, faith it is.
          The world was not created in 7 days.
          Or, it was. I have no way of knowing or proving it. It’s a universe creation story, not just the earth, btw. Everything. One day nothing then “let there be light” and everything else flows from there. The Big Bang tells us everything appeared from out of nowhere in a few nanoseconds, so I don’t think arguing time spans is going to benefit you.
          But back to my point, there is no conflict between reason and faith. Each has a place within a certain context. I wouldn’t use Reason and Logic to try to talk to God, nor would I use Faith to try and dissect atomic structure. You use the tool for the appropriate job, not as a one size fits all hammer, which is where I’m certain most atheists totally fall off the bus.

        43. The concept of Imputation is one of the most difficult believe, and yet most important doctrines in Christianity.
          This system of thought may be repulsive to our minds, but it is internally consistent (and I believe true).
          The Bible seems to portray our father Adam as somehow representing all of us, when he rebelled against God. We all fell in him, and were condemned in Adam.
          The theological term for that is Federal Head. Adam was our Federal Head. He sinned, and we became guilty sinners.
          Then, we follow up on that by adding our own personal sins of rebellion against God. We rebel because we are rebels.
          Somehow salvation in Christ comes the same way.
          Christ is an alternative perfect Federal Head who did not rebel against God, but rather perfectly pleased God the Father (of course Jesus could only do this because He is God the Son, both fully God and fully man).
          Christians are accepted by God as perfect (even though they aren’t in themselves good) because Jesus is perfect, and Jesus death on the cross perfectly pays for their crimes.
          Christ pleased God the Father, and by Faith, Christ becomes my Federal Head and I am accepted by God.
          So, we are all either “in Adam condemned”, or “in Christ justified”.

          Your (intentionally?) missing the point. Let’s assume the world was created in 7 days. On the 6th day, man was created. Which means that, given the fossil record, man and dinosaur must have lived together. Which we know is not the case.
          Honestly, if you really believe the story of Genesis, it’s like trying to argue that Alice in Wonderland is a true story. We know it’s wrong. Sure, we can make up ways to “interpret it” that can make it somehow fit the narrative (billions of years between the 1st day and 2nd, for example). But that’s a hell of leap.
          Yes, I freely admit we have no idea what caused the Big Bang. And it honestly doesn’t matter. I never claimed that my “book” was the word of god. It’s the word of men, and it could be wrong (almost certainly is). But I’m not basing my life on it, not spending my weekends praying to the big bang or physics equations. Not blowing people up because I don’t like the way they did some quantum physics equation. Rational thought does not “break” when you don’t understand something. Faith that the bible (or whatever book you believe) is the WORD OF GOD means that it must, by proxy, be infallible. One mistake, and it’s obviously not the word of god.

        46. Even among IVth century Christian scholars (sorry I can’t remember their names… ) it was understood that Genesis is to be understood metaphorically and philosophically, not literally. The seven days are not seven days of our time. Eve and Adam symbolise our conscient souls being trapped into ape bodies.
          You’ll find interresting to know that for example the Big Bang Theory was developped by a Belgian Catholic priest Georges Lemaître.

          If there was no universe prior to God creating it, how precisely do you know how long a day is? It’s a linguistic issue more than some great philosophical insight that denies God. A day as we know it is 24 hours long, sunrise to sunrise. Without a universe there is no context to define day (no sun, no time, nothing), however to communicate to people whose only reference is in terms of days (months, years, decades, etc. all derivatives of a day) what would you say? The universe was created in 3 conqularks? It’s the challenge of trying to comprehend infinity, it just can’t be done, so we use short hand. Seems like nothing more drastic or “hell of a leap” than integrals being used to get around infinite numbers in math. Would you say integrals are fantasy and a stretch?
          And it honestly doesn’t matter.
          In the context of this discussion, where faith is being disavowed, it most certainly does matter. I mean you’re holding me to that point with “you can’t prove!” so it’s fair to return the same to you.
          One mistake, and it’s obviously not the word of god.
          The Bible is a compendium put together after Christ died (the New Testament I mean, not the Old). It was put together by men. As such, there’s little doubt that they left out things or put in things out of context.
          God’s word is found in your heart. That’s where the true God’s word is. Or isn’t. Some people deny and are rudderless, others deny and adopt a philosophy and get along fine in life as far as it goes.
          I never claimed that my “book” was the word of god.
          And I’ve never claimed that the Bible is a text book of Physics.
          I cede every single thing in the universe that can be proven by science, to science. I give you everything there. But I do this because I know that ultimately, you’ll run up against a wall which has no answer and which will force you to accept faith as valid. Maybe it will take to the ends of the universe, but ultimately you’ll have to come down to faith too. I’m comfortable with it, doesn’t bother me in the least, I simply accept that God made the universe and that I can’t prove it. If I’m wrong, then I lose nothing. If I’m right, then I gain everything. And vice versa for you.

        48. Sorry, but if you believe this is the “word of god” and also, at the same time “a fairy tale that requires interpretation”, something’s wrong. Why would an all powerful god give us a fairy tale?
          And, even if you view them metaphorically, on the 6th day man and animal were created. On the same day. After the 5th day when all whales were created. No matter how you look at this, it’s wrong. Dinosaurs (animal) would have been created AFTER whales. And that’s wrong, that’s not how it happened.
          Also, on the 4th day, god created the planets and THEN created the stars. Again, something we know is wrong.

All “beasts” were not created at the same time. Some were dramatically later than others.           Even if you accept the first and second, you don’t have to accept the conclusion. Just because I don’t know, and we may never know what caused the big bang, does not mean I have to take anything on faith. I can just say “I don’t know”. Which is kind of how I feel about life after death. I seriously doubt it exists, but “I don’t know” is the most truthful answer, because, of course, there’s no way to test it.
          I try to live my life with faith in absolutely nothing. This is not restricted to just god; but all areas. I have no faith my friends will be there for me. No faith my wife won’t cheat. No faith I’ll have a job tomorrow. I live as if the world will fall apart in the next 10 minutes; that way I’m always pleased when, 11 minutes later, everything is still OK. It’s probably not the easiest way to live, but it does keep you from taking things for granted. In whole though, faith is a foreign concept to me.

          To the first question, I learned to view the universe with humility instead of arrogance (I mean that only in my case, I’m not indicting anybody else with that, just to be clear). Once I accepted that basic level of “I know that I know nothing” it became easier to focus on faith to the point that I started “hearing” God’s direction a bit more clearly. Not being mystic mumbo jumbo here (well, trying not to); think of it more like a psychotic man with several voices in his head finally getting medicine to hear only one voice. His entire world and perspective changes, everything he knew he still knows but now he can ponder questions without thousands of combating voices, all contradictory. He can come to peace. I think this level of giving up the self assumed arrogance, to the level of giving up the self as any kind of vessel that can know, is vital to being able to accept faith. Once you can be good with faith then contemplating religion, God, the Bible, life, etc. becomes something *other* than trying to prove your already assumed views, if that makes sense. You open up to something other than your own prejudices.

          See, that’s the thing I’m not sure the religious understand about those of us who don’t believe. I’m not claiming divine influence when I quote science. As such, a perfectly reasonable answer to “where are the missing links” is “I don’t know”. Doesn’t require a re-evaluation of the entire belief system.           Religion is held to a much higher standard. Most religious claim that their book is the literal “word of god”. As such, it’s not open for revision; and it must be infallible. As soon as a theory is proven wrong in the book by science, the entire book is proven wrong; it cannot be the word of god if it’s completely wrong about the origin of life.

        Personally, I cannot see a route to a meaningful life through atheism (I’m not saying that you cannot have a meaningful life that way, but that I cannot).
        I think there are several reasons that people do not believe in God (different people have different reasons).
        Today, I think a lot of people haven’t seriously considered the question of God. Again I’m not saying that is true of you, maybe you have given serious thought to God and then rejected faith in Him.
        I think a lot of people were indoctrinated in secularism, atheism, and evolutionary scientific naturalism through our public education system. They just assume atheism without giving God serious thought (much like they assume Marxist, or feminist thought, or perhaps CO2 induced climatic change).
        All those things might possibly be true, but should not be simply assumed. We should think through them.
        At the end of the day, I believe that Christianity is not only “beneficial or meaningful”, but much more importantly that it is historically true and accurate. Personally I’d suggest looking into the historical evidence for the resurrection of Christ. Everything hangs on that one point. Jesus Christ rising from the dead either happened or it didn’t. That one fact changes everything.

        3. My educational background (BS, MS, and a non PhD doctorate) are in the Biological and Agricultural Sciences. I’ve thought a lot about evolutionary theory. It just doesn’t seem to add up. Random mutation and natural selection (which is pretty much all we have) seem incapable of producing life.
          It might have made sense to Darwin back in the day, but now we know so much more about cell biology and genetics. Everything is complicated beyond our understanding. The more we learn, the more we realize we don’t know.
          The thought that random mutation and natural selection could create everything just doesn’t seem plausible to me.
          Also, the historical evidence of the resurrection of Christ seems pretty compelling to me.
          I know most scientists would disagree with me on both points.

They are talking about eternal truths by which they can live their lives and build something upon. So you’re using the wrong definition here. I see this a lot in evo psych circles when they try to say morality evolved. If morality evolved then morality does not exist. That, my friend, is not called morality, that’s called an “opinion” or an “adaptation.”
          So—in contradiction to your closing sentence—if a designer (author) of a piece of literature intended his book to be about the shortcomings of a legal system because he values justice and reasoned debate, those would be objective value and intentions. If that author was also the Supreme Overlord under which you live, according to his good graces, then his objective values and intentions would be very objective indeed.

        22. That’s a pretty firm positive statement. Perhaps there is no evidence that there are eternal moral values (I beg to differ, from a Natural Law standpoint.) But that doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t. There was no evidence of the dual properties of photons for many ages, but it was there all along, and many more revelations await us in the sciences. Do you have evidence that there aren’t eternal moral values?
          Natural Law would argue that, because there is a created order (and there is no chaos anywhere in the cosmos) then there is also most likely a moral order, values, and a super-chronological author of those values, which would make those morals eternal as far as our frame of reference is concerned. So, in Natural Law, there is strong evidence of eternal moral values that I could go over with you.
          So I repeat: Do you have evidence there are no eternal moral values, or is this an act of faith on your part? I sure hope you don’t believe something for which you have no actual evidence to support.

  10. The thirties are an odd age. You gain the ability to extract wisdom from the insights you’ve had over the years, but you retain a lot of the impulsiveness and energy of your youth. This can lead many places, but one of them is restless angst and hopelessness if your insights inform you of a hostile world. There’s a reason a lot of moral crises happen in one’s thirties for a man.
    Whenever I get to feeling like things are hopeless and all is for naught, I think back and consider that at all times in history, life can be perceived as hell on earth, or as an earthly paradise, regardless of one’s circumstances (well, ok, the slaves of Genghis Khan probably get a pass on that, it sucked hard for them). It’s all in how you approach it. If hedonism doesn’t hit the spot, and I’m fully in agreement that it doesn’t, there are other paths to explore. Also keep in mind that more than happiness, one should pursue contentment. This is a critical thing and they are not necessarily the same.

        1. Fair points. The Protestant churches are by and large utterly corrupt. The Catholic church since Vatican II has been severely compromised (not just my opinion, all Trad Caths will tell you as much). I can’t speak for the Orthodox, having no experience in them.
          With the Protestant, well, just go to some services. The hardest “traditional” of them are Lutheran and they’re utterly lost. Don’t get me started on Episcopalians or Methodists. The common theme seems to be “let’s make it a circus, bow to women and make gays and women into priests” with them nowadays. To be fair, I don’t know how the Southern Baptists are doing, maybe they escaped the Circus Church.

I felt lost since many around me had turned into underlings or had lost all youthful ambitions entirely. Trading my urban food delivery and fresh arrival fucks for a more rugged lifestyle in a quasi rural setting. I did not go balls out rural and off grid cause that would have forced me back to square one. Baby steps.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the “fake” world of the cities and find yourself sucked into a world of pure vanity.
