Why Demographics Matter For The Younger Man

Younger men face two simple biological realities:

1. Older men are generally more desirable to women than their younger selves. Women prefer men above their age range.

2. Younger women are generally more desirable than their older counterparts. Men, if given a choice, generally prefer to date women below them in age. Men in all age ranges are essentially competing most fiercely for women in one particular age range, generally 18-29. Everyone’s competing for the same prize.

These realities ensure that younger men are always vulnerable to competition to older males who (being on average more experienced, affluent and confident versions of themselves) have an edge with younger girls.

Older women, meanwhile, are vulnerable to competition from younger females, a dynamic frequently referred to as “trading in for a new model”, or something to that end. Women are well aware of this, and do everything in their power to guard against it (including shaming). This leads to an important demographic intersection with fertility rates.

A. When fertility rates are increasing, things are good for young men because there is a larger supply of younger women relative to the supply of older men (who, in a scenario where fertility rates are going up, would have been born in years of lower fertility and would therefore not be as numerous).

This means that there are more opportunities for younger guys to compete for the pool of younger girls their older counteparts are also shooting for. The older guys will still get plenty of touches (they’ve got far too many advantages over their younger selves), but there’ll be a larger supply to keep everyone happy. Overall, this is great for them.

B. When fertility rates are decreasing, things get much rougher. This means that the older generations (born in a period of higher fertility) outnumber the young. That, of course, means a larger supply of older men to younger women. Younger guys thus face much stiffer competition for their female peers than they otherwise would, and they’re left at a major disadvantage (they simply lack, on average, the same degree of experience/maturity/confidence/etc that their older selves will have in 3, 4 or 5+ years).

Attitudes are also impacted by this. In a decreasing fertility rate scenario, you’ve got a larger number of more attractive men (older dudes) pursuing a smaller number of the more attractive women (younger girls). The younger girls get more confident as a result of this-they now not only can choose from the more attractive men within their own age group, but not they also have a better shot at quality men 4, 5, or even 10 years their senior (some women will even consider men further above that range, though this is less common in some cultures).

This abundance mentality among young women compounds the difficulty for younger men, who already faced a numerical disadvantage. Now, to get with women in their age group, they need to meet the higher standard those girls now expect from their male peers, a standard enforced not only by the media/feminism/etc, but by the simple demographic realities that put more quality older men in front of them. Only the cream of the crop (the younger dudes with the highest degrees of confidence, maturity, sociability, physical fitness and status) manage to easily clear this hurdle.

Most western societies are in this stage of development right now (declining fertility over the past decade or so), and the effects are being felt.

How can a young guy use this information? Your reality on the ground can change drastically as societies move between these competing scenarios and fertility (or, for that matter, immigration) rates fluctuate. A society considered a virtual “pussy paradise” a mere decade ago (i.e. Brazil) can change quickly as fertility rates decline and the supply of younger women goes with it.

Similarly, realities on the ground can improve as some parts of the world see fertility increases that create a surplus of younger women for men to pursue down the road. It is up to the individual to put himself into the best position to be one of those men.

The sexual marketplace is a volatile place. Your fertile hunting ground today can be a dead zone tomorrow thanks to demographic shifts, and vice versa. Knowing this, guys should be careful to keep abreast of these changes and shifts as they happen, and be ready to move and/or adapt accordingly. Their romantic lives may depend on it.

  1. Dope post Athlone. You’d have a lot to offer the world with your own platform for your ideas. Definitely a hell of a lot more then I do.
I have ONE big caveat with this and similar ideas put forth in the manosphere. The pool of young people in the West in absolute numbers is INCREASING with each year. Even with sub-replacement fertility rates, the number of newborns born each year will continue to increase for quite some time, not to mention the giant effect immigration would have. America’s supposed to add 130-150 million people by 2050 according to estimates. Only in parts of Europe (Eastern and Southern specifically) would there be a smaller number of young people born each year then the last. Australia for example has a rapidly increasing population, and is unique amongst Western countries for still having considerable White immigration and a higher fertility rate amongst Whites then minorities, so all groups are experiencing more young women born each year then the year before. The city I live in is projected to double the size of it’s metropolitan population to 7.5-8 million in coming decades, yet despite all this it doesn’t seem like there’s a large difference in sex relations between Australia and other western states.
According to Roosh, Eastern Europe is “pussy paradise” yet fertility rates are so low there it’s akin to national suicide, almost all of Eastern Europe is shrinking as we speak, as is Germany, Italy, Spain etc but the UK, France and Scandinavia continue to grow due to relatively higher fertility and immigration. If you were right, then there should be a stark difference in the attitudes of women in Germany vs. UK and France. I’ve never been to Europe, but I’m very sure guys on RVF would’ve noticed it by now if it existed.

  2. Good post, but you didn’t mention the 20 year or so lag between birth rates and dating market conditions.
I think that might explain why EE is a PP now but not might be in another 10 years or so.

  3. Good post from a high-level view. As the other commenters pointed out, birth rate changes take about 20 years for the effects to be seen. Most guys care more about the situation now than in 20 years.
Also as another commenter mentioned, immigration is a big factor.
I think another way to look at this is using the population pyramid, which shows the percentage of people (and gender) by age group.

  4. While I definitely agree that relative supply of young girls to older guys is very important. You need to adjust for actual supply and demand.
    Actual being:
Amount of girls of age that are available and desirable, (e.g. not fat, ugly, young)
Amount of guys that are available and desirable. ( have a job, confidence, style, not shipped overseas)
    Counter examples:
Russia and Ukraine send there men away for military for a couple years and on top of that, they end up as alcoholic drunks.
Japan has large groups of men (20-25% are still virgins past 30) who are completely undesirable to even their women.
So even if you have declining fertility, you can have offsetting factors affecting the actual ratio of desirable guys to desirable girls.

And as for “bad economy”, i think the perception of bad might be a factor. But, good and bad are relative. For instance, America has a bad economy by its normal standards, however, it’s not Greece. On the other hand, I just saw a poll that 84% Africans are positive about the economic futures in the next 2 years.
As part of my research into trying to find the best countries to visit, using UN Education and Development figures around the Gender Parity 2011 report, I found that the percentage increases of GDP per capita are correlated with the gender parity index (assume feminism) up until $10,000 per a capita. Afterwards, “cultural factors” (which in Athlone’s model is an outcome/dependent variable) seems to affect the amount of gender parity/feminism.

  5. eastern europe phillipines an brazil in the 15-64 category have more women than men (unlike most nations)
guys in brazil get killed by gangs….filipino guys leave the country in high numbers and eastern european men have high suicde rates an high rates of alcholism
japan would be good too since 30% of guys arent interested in sex

  6. Wow, your argument makes perfect sense and it explains why Brazil is going down on the pussy meter. That has a lot to do with it’s growing economy and affluence. What this growth also does is increase the supply of older, confident males who aren’t dying from disease and violence from living in a favela, for example.
With this in mind, I think Colombia has become the more ideal place for finding that paradise. Roissy’s website at Le Chateau recently posted a video of a Brazilian man trolling a slut march in Rio. Slut marches, it seems, are a long ways away from happening in Colombia.
By the way, congrats Roosh on your writing. You writing has become more insightful like Roissy’s with out the heavy-handed racist neoconservative bent.

  7. One thing that’s not getting factored in is that most men marry in their 30s. I know late age bachelorhood is on the rise, but nonetheless, most men are married by 40. So unless they are pursuing a younger mistress on the side, they are effectively taken off the market. As men progress through their 30s, they rapidly fall off the singles scene. Keep in mind as well that in the West, most guys have been age-shamed into not dating women more than a few years younger. I don’t give a shit myself, but when I ask dudes what’s the youngest girl you’d date, none of the dudes my age(mid 30s) are trying to get at college girls. They’re looking at late 20s to early 30s.

  8. Great article. I do think money pays a very big role in this of course.
Notice the “pussy paradises” are relative poor countries as opposed to the countries in the west, where women earn decent salaries.

  9. I’m okay with dating older girls and divorcees. My career requires my time and focus right now, and I’m not willing to put up with demanding young girls. I also don’t want to withdraw from the dating market altogether.

  10. I think now the top 10% good looking guys have their fill of girls and the bottom 50% of guys have zero girls because the girls don’t care about relationships and are fine with uncommitted sex and of course really good looking guys don’t mind having “just sex” with girls 3-4 points lower than they are as long as they aren’t giving up the 10s for them. Because of that, the 1-6.5 guys out there are pretty much out of luck because the 6 girls will hold out for one or 2 nights with that 8.5 guy (who will smash them when he doesn’t feel like having to try or go out).
